• Old Vicarage School is warm, developmental and quietly ambitious and aims to make the junior years feel both happy in themselves and useful for what comes next.

• Will suit families seeking a prep in Derbyshire where childhood, individual attention and a confident next step all matter.

Admissions at Old Vicarage School are warm, parent-friendly and thoughtfully paced and should appeal to families who want a co-educational stand-alone prep in Derby, Derbyshire offering a prep-school education, with the next move often coming at 11+ or 13+, and the clarity of a day-school routine. It should suit parents who value an admissions process that is more suitability led than overtly competitive and a school community that feels more considered than impersonal.

Scholarships are not the main draw at this age, even where future senior-school awards may become part of the story later on. Families choose the school for the quality of the junior years, the atmosphere and the strength of the next-step preparation.

The overall picture is reassuringly clear, with Old Vicarage School coming across as a small school community with an early-years entry point visible in the overall shape of the offer rather than a school trying to be all things to all families. Parents should still visit because the decisive question is whether the school's culture, scale and everyday tone feel like the right fit for their child.

Assessment is regular and teacher led, combining close tracking of reading, writing and mathematics with sensible preparation for 11+ or other senior-school routes. Parents should expect clear communication, appropriate stretch and a curriculum broad enough to support confidence as well as academic readiness.
